The sciatic nerve branches out from the lower back all the way into the feet. It is both the thickest and longest nerve in the body. Although the term “Sciatica” is commonly used, it actually does not point to the true cause of the pain which may or may not involve the sciatic nerve in the back of the upper thigh.
